[Grml] installing on a usb stick

I have an 8 GB usb stick on which I would like to install grml.
Does anyone have recommendations regarding the use of grml2hd vs. grml2usb?

Using Ubuntu's usb-creator, I got a system that would boot on my desktop,
but not on my x61 thinkpad ...
