[Grml] devel 0.8 ndiswrapper

Is anyone else having an issue with ndiswrapper?

I have rechecked on live cd of 0.7:

nano /etc/network/interfaces
"iface wlan0 inet dhcp"

then 

ndiswrapper -i /path/to/driver
modprobe ndiswrapper (green wireless light illuminates in 0.7, not in 0.8)
iwconfig wlan0 blah blah
ifup wlan0

works fine in 0.7

does nothing at all in 0.8

Is this another udev issue, or am I stupidly missing something new I should
know?  Or is the module not ready for newbie consumption yet?
