Is the entry really valid?

Something like:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
      address 141.209.169.84
      gateway 141.209.169.1
      broadcast 141.209.169.255
      netmask 255.255.255.0

What kind of network card + driver are you using?
Does 'rmmod ipv6' help?
What's the output of 'ip addr show'?
Does 'ifup -a' change anything?
