[issue1175] serial console broken with 2012.05 release

When booting grml-2012.05 in serial console mode (by selection from menu or
typing "serial" on isolinux prompt), I cannot get a serial console.

Boot and init messages are sent to the serial console but the grml menu and
shell prompt are directed to the regular display.
