[issue984] grml-live: softupdate fails (sometimes)

I've just commited http://git.grml.org/?p=grml-live.git;a=commit;h=16a29e1 
which is supposed to address this issue. I hope this addresses the issue 
accordingly, actually the situation where "input file is output file" shouldn't 
be reached ever, if so it's a situation I'm not aware of and which needs to be 
addressed separately - if so please report back with further details.
