if gitweb isn't already using the index file created by gitosis i doubt that there is anything 
we can do beside giving it more resources.

btw... gitolite and smart http cloning are 2 things we should really consider adding to our 
infrastructure.
  - gitolite is a maintained rewrite of gitosis
  - smart http cloning is essentially git:// over http standard port,
      so no problems with corporate firewalls
