Thanks, Mika.  The fresh installation was made to my 8 GB handy drive.

I have another one of the same model.  I will try installing grml to it and let you know.

Sorry, can not reproduce this issue with grml 2009.10, works as expected for 
me. If you think the bug is still present please provide exact command lines 
and any existing core/log files.
