Afaics, when using {min,run}getty -- which don't support serial use -- `$BAUD'
doesn't get set. Hence the output of `status()' includes a hiatus and prints
something like
% Term..: /dev/pts/15 (screen-bce), bauds, 150 x 52 cars
^^
Mind the gap!
