You mean regarding stage* files?

The other commands were just for debugging reasons.

That's good news on the other side.

Can you please rerun (for grub1):

  echo quit | grub --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map --batch

or (for grub2):

  grub-mkdevicemap --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map

and then retry grml2ub again?

Which grub version on which Linux distribution and version are you
using?
