AFAICS (so I'm not 100% sure, but at least at my last test I
couldn't see anything related to persistency when booting with the
persistent boot option) it's not possible to override the
configuration NOPERSISTENT="Yes" via booting with the persistent
boot parameter - which is something I don't like.

Do you care to investigate on that?
As you might know we have our own git repository for live-initramfs:

  http://git.grml.org/?p=live-initramfs-grml.git;a=summary

It's not a fork of the original but to keep it under our own
control.
